O L D N E W S (a brief archive
of the work in progress):
|
03/31/03: We have uploaded an update to version 0.7.4(Beta) in the Downloads section. Along with some general bug fixes, this update optimizes the Import routine (Export will be given the same treatment, but it will be less noticable) and adds the creation of a database backup on startup.
We will also be optimizing the Library soon, to reduce the slight lag time when browsing larger Archives. Check back for updates.
I've also added a new link to the LINKS page. MapMage, the new target site, offers a number of interesting generator programs. Try adding them to the DA Quick Launch list to easily expand the number of useful tools readily at your fingertips. If you have any other useful links, please Contact Us.

03/21/03: We have updated the D20 Fantasy SRD in the Material Downloads section. It now includes Creatures as released in the 02/17/03 revision released by WotC. We will be inputting Psionics soon, as well as making the official format for D20 creatures in the Encounter Manager available. Check back for further updates.
Please note that you must register DA to use the Import/Export feature.

03/05/03: We have uploaded an update to version 0.7.3(Beta) in the Downloads section. This one is just some general bug fixes, including Library, Character NoteBook, and Import features.
If you are updating from version 0.7.1(Beta) or earlier, you must download and run the database update utility. There is a utility available on the Downloads page that will update your existing database information with the new changes. See the included ReadMe.txt file for instructions.

02/20/03: We have uploaded an update to version 0.7.2(Beta) in the Downloads section. Along with some general code adjustments and fixes, we've tied up some loose ends from the last update and added a few more view options to the Character NoteBook. You can now filter the Character NoteBook by Region, Location, or Caption within the associated Setting. Instead of sifting through all Characters entered for the Setting, you can opt to display only Characters relevant to your current area.
Please note that this update includes an update to the DA database. There is a utility included with the update .ZIP file that will update your existing database information with the new changes. See the included ReadMe.txt file for instructions.

02/01/03: We have added the Netbook of Classes to the Material Downloads section for use in the DA Reference Library. It includes 6 new core classes and 19 new prestige classes, created and balanced by the netbook's project team.
This netbook is organized by the people at the Fantasy Community Council, a non-profit fan-based group dedicated to organizing fan created material for distribution under the OGL or D20 STL by Wizards of the Coast. The FanCC also has a number of other netbooks available, which we hope to be adding to the Reference Library soon. All of their netbooks are available in their original format and most current revision at fancc.net (note the address change).

01/24/03: We have uploaded an update to version 0.7.1(Beta) in the Downloads section. Along with some general code adjustments in everything from the Library to the Dice Roller, this version adds a number of View menu options to the Character NoteBook and the Adventure Site NoteBook.
You can now filter the Character NoteBook by Campaign or Setting only, or hide it alltogether to make some extra room for the Campaign and Setting NoteBooks.
Likewise, the Site NoteBook can be expanded from the default list (filtered by the Setting NoteBook Caption) to include all Sites entered for the Location, the Region, the entire Setting, or even all Sites entered regardless of Setting.

01/18/03: It's been a little while since our last program update, and we've gotten a number of emails asking about what's in the works. I've posted a response to an inquiry on our Messageboard, so take a look if you want to see what we have planned.
If you have any suggestions for what you think we should be working on, take a minute to let us know via email or the Messageboard - even if you're not a registered user. Would you like to see new adventures and netbooks added to the Material Downloads section, or should we focus on improving the program for now? What aspects would you like us to focus on? What would you like to see changed or added? Contact Us

01/05/03: We have added the Netbook of Magical Treasures to the Material Downloads section for use in the DA Reference Library. It includes over 100 new magical items of all sorts, created and balanced by the netbook's project team.
All of their netbooks are available in their original format and most current revision at fancc.org.

12/28/02: Happy Holidays everybody.
We have added the Netbook of Feats to the Material Downloads section for use in the DA Reference Library. All of their netbooks are available in their original format and most current revision at fancc.org.
The Netbook of Feats includes all of the feats from the D20 SRD (also available in the Material Downloads section) and many new and original feats created and balanced by the netbook's project team.

12/09/02: An update to beta versio 0.7(Beta) is available in the Downloads section. This update enables the Print feature, allowing registered users to print any number of entries from any DA NoteBook or Library Archive in any order. Rich text pre-formatting options are included to allow users to produce a legible, organized print document that can be edited and sent to print for a hard copy or saved to disk as an RTF file for further editing or distribution.
There is a .zip file in the Material section showcasing the print output. The sample adventure that is included with DA was saved as an RTF file using the Print feature. With minimal editing, the resulting file is ready to use as a stand alone adventure, complete with maps, images, and descriptions. You can use a dedicated word processor for further formatting, or even use it to create a PDF file or website for web publishing of your Adventures, Settings, and even netbooks.

11/25/02: An update to beta versio 0.6.3(Beta) is available in the Downloads section. Along with some general code adjustments, this update adds some functionality to the Export feature. Users can now select an existing DA database to add entries to, rather than overwriting the database altogether. This allows users to update or add entries without having to export the entire thing again, or to export to the same file using different Options.
We have also been doing a lot of work on the Print feature, which we hope to release in the near future. The print feature will allow users to organize, format, edit, and print any number of DA entries in any order, as well as save to RTF format for editing in a dedicated word processor or publishing to the internet.. There is a post on the Message Board with details, so check it out if you're interested.

11/19/02: An update to beta 0.6.2(Beta) is available in the Downloads section. This update resolves a registration problem that some users experienced with certain UserNames. When registering, you should update to version 0.6.2 before entering the registration code that we provide to avoid possible problems. If you have experienced problems with registration, Contact Us.

11/17/02: The D20 Modern SRD is now available in the Material Downloads section. All of the rules, skills, feats, etc. from the D20 Modern rules are included, organized for quick reference through the DA Library.
The creatures included in the D20 MSRD are not included in this export file. They will be added in a separate download to allow users to Import Into the original D20 SRD as well, for use with non-D20 Modern campaigns. We are also trying to settle on a standard Encounter Manager entry format for D20 creatures, and will be adding the OGC creatures to the Encounter Manager as well.

11/14/02: I've put up a messageboard. It's not fancy, but it'll do for now. Stop by and say hello.

11/13/02: Version 0.6.1(Beta) is now available in the Downloads section. Both the NT and 9x versions are available, as either a full version or an update. We have made some general improvements to the Library, and enabled the Import Into option in the Import feature.
The Import Into option allows users to import directly into an existing collection. You could download a detailed city or adventure site, for example, and import it directly into an existing Setting regardless of the original Setting name. The Import Into option does not currently work with the root Campaign (only affects LogBook entries, which can be added manually), GameSystems, or Creatures. They can still be imported normally, but not directly into a GameSystem or Campaign of a different name. We will continue to improve on the Import Into option, to make it more flexible and useful.

11/09/02: The Import/Export feature is now available with release 0.6(Beta). The full NT version and an update are now available in the Downloads section. The 9x version will follow as soon as I get the compiled version and have a chance to upload it (database problems appear to be solved). Registered users can now use the Import/Export feature to share data between computers, with players, and even over the internet.
We have also launched the Material Downloads section. To start us off, we are making the D20 System Reference Document (from Wizards of the Coast) available for the DA Reference Library, and will be adding the D20 Modern SRD soon. If you have something ready, Contact Us and we will add it to the Material Downloads section.

11/07/02: We have found a problem with the Windows 9x database drivers (solve one, create another). Users can view the material included in DA, but cannot add or edit entries under windows 9x. It should be an easy fix, so an update will follow shortly.
On the positive side, the Import routine is working. We should have a usable version ready in the next day or two. We're also looking for additional material to distribute or supplemental utilites to Quick Launch. If you have a program, netbook, usefull charts, or even an adventure that you'd be willing to share, Contact Us.

11/05/02: The registration page seems to be working now. For future reference, PayPal doesn't seem to play nice with frames...

11/01/02: Version 0.5.1(Beta) for Windows 9X is now available. Older versions of Windows may need an additional download available from Microsoft. There are links on the downloads page if you have trouble running DA under windows 95 or 98. I also fixed the dead links to the NT version. (No wonder we had a sudden drop in downloads, despite the steady increase in visitors.)

10/30/02: Some people have been having trouble with the PayPal registration process. You can also register manually through PayPal by sending your request to admin@mjhkstudios.com ($15.00 US, please include a User Name), or contact us for other options. I would like to thank those of you who have already registered manually, the extra effort is very encouraging.
We have completed the Export feature, and are nearly done with the Import feature as well. We are still considering a few things for the Import Into option, which allows you to import new material directly into existing collections. We could release it now and it would be functional, but we would rather polish the features. Let us know if you would rather have it now. If enough users are ready, we could just as easily release it and upgrade rather than waiting a bit longer. (Contact Us.)

10/28/02: I have uploaded version 0.5.1(Beta) to the Download area. It is available for download as the full version, or as an update to conserve bandwidth. This update resolves some Registration issues that some users experienced, as well as a glitch in the LogBook that may prevent the saving of multiple LogBook files to the same Campaign. Other general progress has been made, and we plan to release the Import/Export feature as soon as we finish testing all of the options. We also plan to add the 9x version to the Download section, but we are having a little trouble with database access under the older versions of Windows. We may just have to rewrite some of the code, so it should be available soon.
Thank you to those of you who have registered early, or have otherwise voiced your support. We're still looking for more feedback, as well as potential Export material and Links to and from our site. If you have anything to say or offer, please Contact Us.

10/20/02: We've been online for a few weeks now, and are getting a few visitors and downloads. I've almost gotten the website where I want it, so it's time to start the news section. We've been working on DA for over a year now, originally as a fully functional program for a home-grown RPG (including all of the GameSystem specific functions that most people expect from a computer RPG assistant). After some discussion and revision, we settled on a core tool without any of the GameSystem specific features, but with a heavy focus on what we found was the most useful aspect of the program: overall Campaign Management, organization, and utility as a hub for our other RPG-related computer files. This seems to be a use overlooked or given less priority by many of the other programs out there, so we decided to make DA available online. Hopefully other users will find it as useful as we have.
We are currently revising the Import/Export feature, we're not quite satisfied with the interface yet. As soon as it's ready, I'll upload it and start making additional material available. I hope to offer netbooks, adventures, and whatever d20 Open Game Content that I can, making DA an even more usefull reference tool. We'll even host user-created material, provided you comply with copyright law.
If you have a netbook, house rules, adventure, or other material that you would like us to make available for DA, feel free to Contact Us now, and we'll try to make it available after the Import/Export feature is released.
We're also looking for related Links to add, and for related sites that can offer links to us. If you host such a site, please Contact Us.
And of course, feedback is always appreciated. I plan to add a messageboard soon, but it's not a priority right now. If you have something to say, please Contact Us.
Thanks.
